Megan from Lubbly Jubbly Furniture saw the potential in a boring old cabinet and gave it a fresh new look with a coat of paint in the color, Simplicity, and some hairpin legs. Come see the amazing difference it made!

Hey everyone!

How was your February? We’ve been busy gearing up for Spring. I wanted to share this piece of furniture with you as it was a big transformation. Just going to pick up this cabinet was an adventure that I’m not sure I ever want to do again. It was my first time travelling further than my usual 20 minute drive limit (this one was 45 minutes), and I got lost and ended up at a deserted restaurant, then lost again, and finally reached my destination. But when I saw the cabinet, it was all worth it because I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

This is what we all do to get that perfect piece that we have a vision for; we go on adventures.  This cabinet needed a serious clean up, but for the most part there no damage. It just some reconfiguration so I could add the hairpin legs.

Once I got it home I gave it a good sanding and then cleaned it with vinegar and lemon. This cabinet definitely needed priming. I was just so sure there would be bleed through, but it worked out well with two coats of white primer. Make sure to leave about 4 hours in between primer coats, and then another 4 hours before you apply your first coat of paint.

I used my paint sprayer to apply 2-3 coats of the color, Simplicity over the entire piece. I then sprayed on Country Chic Paint’s Tough Coat which I chose because I knew this piece would get lots of use, and it needed something strong to protect the finish.

To add the legs, I first cut off the bottom trim to create a flat surface on which to attach the legs. Once that was done, the legs went on easily. I could have replaced the hardware, but instead I chose to keep the original handles paint them with Simplicity and Tough Coat to match the rest of the piece.

Hi there, I’m Megan from Lubbly Jubbly Furniture. I grew up in the UK and came to Canada when I was 17.  I am a Mother of 4 and married to my amazing husband – this business of mine wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for him. I started painting furniture almost four years ago as a hobby grew to a real business in March of 2018. I love to restore furniture and just starting painting canvases as well. I’m really enjoying what I do and I continue to work harder and have fun while doing it!
