Elizabeth from The Lavender Homefront gave these curvy side tables a new, lightened look that accentuates their beauty rather than hide it. Come see how she did it!

I happened upon these cute little side tables on Facebook Marketplace. They weren’t in bad shape, but the style left much to be desired. Since these two were cheap, I decided to purchase them and give them a new look.

Country Chic Paint’s Pebble Beach really jumped out at me - maybe that was because they were so dark. I also loved the nooks and crannies in these tables and imagined how nice they would look with a little Antiquing Wax.

The Transformation Process:

The first step, as with all painting projects, was to prep the tables. I washed them down with a mild soap and water solution. I then lightly sanded the two tables, just enough to allow paint to adhere to the surface. With all the little parts and pieces of these tables, it took a little longer than anticipated.

Since they had such a dark wood finish, I decided to prime them first. This served as a barrier from the dark wood and ensured that Country Chic Paint’s Pebble Beach would cover the dark wood more easily.

I then painted the first coat of Pebble Beach using Country Chic Paint’s Short-Handle Paint Brush.

The first coat of paint didn't give me perfect coverage, which is normal. For the second coat I watered down the paint with a little bit of warm water. We are at near freezing temperatures in Colorado right now, and the paint gets very cold and thick. The bit of warm water thinned out the paint and allowed it to brush on more smoothly. However, it’s important not to add too much water. Otherwise, the paint will be too thin and it will create drip marks all over the furniture. 

After two coats of paint (and a few touch-ups here and there), the side tables were completed in a lovely, soft grey!

About 24 hours later, I added Country Chic Paint’s Clear Wax to the side tables to seal it. Once applied, the wax was buffed out with a lint free rag until no longer tacky. 

I decided to add Country Chic Paint’s Antiquing Wax to all of the nooks and crannies of the piece. This really offered depth and allowed the curves of the legs to pop instead of blending in. 

I heavily applied Antiquing Wax around all of the edging and crevices, allowing the dark wax to get into the hard to reach places. Applying to one area at a time, I then buffed out the excess Antiquing Wax, leaving some to sit in the nooks and crannies. 

I kept the hardware as-is. The metal looks great with the color and really matches the dark Antiquing Wax.

These little side tables came out beautifully. They have a very antique feel and would look great in both a farmhouse décor styled home or a French country styled home. The Antiquing Wax really gave this piece character and an extra bit of visual interest. The grey color really allows these side tables to blend in to most any décor, while still offering soft, feminine details.
