Megan from Lubbly Jubbly Furniture saved an old, dirty dresser and transformed it into a beautiful bathroom vanity with the color, "Liquorice" and some Clear Coat!
Happy New Year! 2019 was a great year for me, I feel I really learnt a lot in my business and created many pieces that were out of my comfort zone, but I did them and I was happy about it.
This piece was my first vanity. Not only was it a vanity, but it was a double! I will say that it was a piece that I did not have to change too much.
This piece needed to be cleaned in a big way, especially inside. It came from a home that was its first home but they were renovating and changing things up so I took the vanity to make new again.
I used a vinegar solution to clean but it didn’t get everything off so I sanded slightly using 400 grit paper inside the vanity. Then I cleaned again and I used
Hemp Oil to go over the surface inside and the inside of the doors to make it look new again.
Then I applied 3 coats of the color,
Liquorice. Usually I only need two coats, but this vanity will be used in a bathroom so I wanted an extra coat. I then sealed it with
Clear Coat.
Clear Coat is very durable and I felt that it was a good product to use for this piece, especially since water is involved. I also painted the hardware and sealed them
The taps came with this vanity which is great, but you can also get affordable taps at Lowe’s, Home Depot, or even Habitat for Humanity. If you don’t have sinks you can find affordable drop sinks or bowl sinks at Home Depot for $50 and cut the spaces for them into the top of your dresser.
If your top is wood I suggest using two to three coats of
Clear Coat for optimal durability and let it cure for 3-4 weeks.
I hope this helps you with your own dresser-to-vanity transformation, and have fun creating!

Hi there, I'm Megan from Lubbly Jubbly Furniture. I grew up in the UK and came to Canada when I was 17. I am a Mother of 4 and married to my amazing husband - this business of mine wouldn't exist if it weren't for him. I started painting furniture almost four years ago as a hobby grew to a real business in March of 2018. I love to restore furniture and just starting painting canvases as well. I'm really enjoying what I do and I continue to work harder and have fun while doing it!
